What this lesson teaches
Fact books have special parts that help us find things. Headings and a list of pages show us where to look.
Worked examples
Example 1
A book about pets has a heading that says "Dogs." We go to that page to read about dogs.
Example 2
A book about the body has a heading that says 'Bones.' Go there instead of reading every page.
Example 3
The index at the very back lists words in ABC order with page numbers. It is even faster than the headings.
Practice questions
- Find a heading in a fact book.
- Tell what that page will be about.
- Use the page list to find where a topic starts.
