What this lesson teaches
We learn new words when we talk, read, and listen. We can use joining words like "and" or "because" too.
Worked examples
Example 1
"I like cake and I like pie because they are sweet." The words "and" and "because" join our ideas.
Example 2
'I wanted to go, but it was raining, so we stayed in.' The words but and so show how ideas connect.
Example 3
'And' adds, 'but' contrasts, 'because' explains. Picking the right one changes the meaning of the sentence.
Practice questions
- Use a new word you learned today.
- Join two ideas with the word "and."
- Tell why you like something using "because."
