Formal Presentational Speaking & Writing

Aligned to ACTFL Presentational — ACTFL World-Readiness Standards.

What this lesson teaches

Formal presentational skills mean writing essays and reports and delivering speeches on concrete and even abstract topics, organizing your ideas with paragraphs and transitions. With planning time you produce connected, increasingly accurate work. These skills support AP exams, college applications, and future professional communication.

Worked example

You might write a persuasive essay in Spanish arguing for an environmental policy, using transitions like 'por un lado' (on one hand) and 'en conclusion' (in conclusion) to organize your argument.

Practice questions

  1. What transition words help organize a formal essay?
  2. Why are these skills useful for college or AP exams?
  3. Choose a topic you could write a short persuasive essay about.
