What this lesson teaches
A critique is a thoughtful conversation about art. A useful order is to describe what you see, analyze how the elements and principles are used, interpret what it might mean, then evaluate how well it works. Good feedback is specific and kind, giving reasons instead of just good or bad.
Worked example
Of a moody self-portrait you might say: I see dark blues and a turned-away face (describe), the cool colors and pose feel lonely (analyze and interpret), and it works because every choice supports that mood (evaluate).
Practice questions
- Describe an artwork before judging it.
- Give one piece of feedback that is specific and kind.
- Interpret a painting and back it up with evidence you see.

Artes Visuales: crítica y análisis de significado
Una crítica es una conversación reflexiva sobre el arte. Un orden útil es: describir lo que ves, analizar cómo se usan los elementos y principios, interpretar qué podría significar y, por último, evaluar qué tan bien funciona. Una retroalimentación útil es específica y respetuosa, dando razones en lugar de decir simplemente si algo es bueno o malo.
Ejemplo: Ante un autorretrato con ambiente sombrío podrías decir: veo azules oscuros y un rostro girado (describir), los colores fríos y la postura transmiten soledad (analizar e interpretar), y funciona porque cada elección refuerza ese estado de ánimo (evaluar).
