Visual Arts: craftsmanship & presenting work

Aligned to NCAS:Pr — National Core Arts Standards.

What this lesson teaches

Craftsmanship means caring about the quality and finish of your work, not just the idea. How you present a piece, by matting, framing, photographing, or choosing the order of works, changes how people see it. Presenting your art well shows you think it is worth sharing.

Worked example

Choose your five strongest pieces for a gallery wall and arrange them so a viewer's eye flows from one to the next, with your boldest piece placed where they look first.

Practice questions

  1. Photograph one artwork well, with good light and a clean background.
  2. Choose your three best pieces and explain why.
  3. How would you arrange a small show so it flows for a viewer?
