What this lesson teaches
Music theory is the grammar behind the sounds. When you learn scales, key signatures, intervals, and chords, you start to understand why music works, not just how to play the notes. That understanding makes it faster to learn songs and easier to improvise or compose.
Worked example
A major chord sounds bright and happy, while a minor chord sounds sad. Play a C major then a C minor and you will hear how lowering one note changes the whole feeling.
Practice questions
- Play or describe the difference between a major and minor chord.
- Figure out a simple song you like by ear.
- Why might learning scales make new pieces faster to learn?
