Music: composing & music technology
Aligned to NCAS:Cr — National Core Arts Standards.
What this lesson teaches
Today a lot of music is made with software. Using loops, recording, and notation programs, you can compose, arrange, and produce whole tracks on a computer. Like any composing, it works best as a process: lay down an idea, listen, revise, and build it up.
Worked example
In a free app like BandLab, you stack a drum loop, add a bass line, then record a melody on top. You mute and unmute layers until the mix feels balanced.
Practice questions
- Build a short loop-based track with at least two layers.
- Score a short home video with music that fits the mood.
- Revise one of your tracks after listening with fresh ears.
