What this lesson teaches
Reading goes left to right and top to bottom. Words are made of letters, and spaces separate one word from the next.
Worked example
In the sentence 'The cat ran,' we read 'The' first, then 'cat,' then 'ran' — moving left to right, with spaces showing where each word ends.
