What this lesson teaches
Reading goes left to right and top to bottom. Words are made of letters, and spaces separate one word from the next.
Worked examples
Example 1
In the sentence 'The cat ran,' we read 'The' first, then 'cat,' then 'ran' — moving left to right, with spaces showing where each word ends.
Example 2
Put your finger under each word as you read 'I see a dog.' Four words, four finger stops — the spaces tell you where to move.
Example 3
When a line of text ends, your eyes go back to the left edge of the next line, not straight down the page.
