What this lesson teaches
Spoken words are made of sounds. We can hear rhymes, break words into sounds, and blend sounds together to make words.
Worked example
The word 'cat' has three sounds: /k/ /a/ /t/. Blend them together quickly and you get 'cat.' 'Cat' rhymes with 'hat.'
Practice questions
- What sounds do you hear in 'dog'?
- Name a word that rhymes with 'sun'.
- Blend these sounds: /m/ /a/ /p/.
