Displaying Data
Aligned to S-ID.A.1 — Common Core State Standards for Mathematics.
What this lesson teaches
Data on a number line can be shown as a dot plot (a dot per value), a histogram (bars for value ranges), or a box plot (median and quartiles). Each display highlights different features of the data.
Worked example
For the data 3, 5, 5, 7, 9, the median is the middle value 5. A box plot would mark the minimum 3, the median 5, and the maximum 9 along the number line.
Practice questions
- Find the median of 2, 4, 4, 6, 8, 10.
- In a histogram, what does the height of a bar represent?
- Which display best shows how many students scored between 80 and 90: a dot plot or a histogram?

Mostrar Datos
