Writing Routinely
Aligned to W.9-10.10 — Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts.
What this lesson teaches
Regular writing — both quick tasks and longer projects — builds fluency; vary the time frame, purpose, and audience to grow as a writer.
Worked example
In one week a student writes a five-minute journal entry, a paragraph summary, and a multi-day essay — the short bursts and the long project each build different skills.
Practice questions
- Plan a week's mix of short and extended writing tasks.
- Explain how a timed entry differs in goal from a revised essay.
- Describe a purpose for which quick daily writing helps most.
