Integrating Sources from Media

Aligned to SL.9-10.2 — Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts.

What this lesson teaches

When information comes through diverse media — a talk, a chart, a video — integrate the sources and evaluate each for credibility and accuracy before drawing conclusions.

Worked example

A student watches a podcast interview and a data graphic on the same law; the graphic confirms one of the speaker's numbers and contradicts another, so the student trusts it selectively.

Practice questions

  1. Combine information from a spoken source and a visual source on one topic.
  2. Explain how you would check the accuracy of a claim made in a video.
  3. Describe what to do when two media sources disagree.

Every lesson comes with a video taught in English and Spanish — the same video the QR code in the printed workbook opens.
