Defining and Comparing Functions

What this lesson teaches
A function is a rule that gives exactly one output for each input, like a machine that turns each input into a single result. You can show a function as an equation, a table, or a graph, and a function is linear if its graph is a straight line.
Worked example
The rule y = 2x is a function. Input 3 gives one output: 2 times 3 equals 6. Each input produces exactly one output, so it qualifies.

Una función es una regla que da exactamente un resultado para cada valor de entrada, como una máquina que convierte cada entrada en un único resultado. Puedes representar una función como una ecuación, una tabla o una gráfica, y una función es lineal si su gráfica es una línea recta.
Ejemplo: La regla y = 2x es una función. La entrada 3 da un único resultado: 2 por 3 es igual a 6. Cada entrada produce exactamente un resultado, por lo que cumple con la definición.
