What this lesson teaches
Choose exact words and cut wordiness and redundancy. Saying more with fewer, sharper words makes your writing stronger and easier to read.
Worked example
Wordy: 'Due to the fact that it was raining, we made the decision to stay inside.' Concise: 'Because it was raining, we stayed inside.' Same meaning, half the words, clearer.
Practice questions
- Take a wordy sentence and rewrite it using fewer words without losing meaning.
- Replace a vague word like 'good' or 'thing' with a more precise one.
- Find and delete a redundant phrase (like 'past history') in something you wrote.
