What this lesson teaches
Grade 6 literature is longer and more complex, so build stamina and strategies: preview, read in chunks, jot quick notes, and reread confusing spots instead of skipping them.
Worked example
Facing a dense chapter, a reader pauses every page to jot one sentence — 'she just found the letter' — and circles unfamiliar words to check. Those small stops keep a long, tricky story from blurring together.
Practice questions
- Choose a chapter book at your level and set a page goal to read without stopping.
- After each section, write one sentence summarizing what happened.
- Mark two hard spots and reread them; note what became clear.
