Whose Point of View?
Aligned to RL.5.6 — Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts.
What this lesson teaches
The narrator is the voice telling the story. Their point of view decides what we see and how events feel, so the same event can sound very different.
Worked example
A goalie who lets in a goal calls it 'the worst day ever.' The player who scored calls the very same moment 'the best.' Point of view changes the mood.
Practice questions
- Tell an everyday event from a pet's point of view.
- Explain how a narrator's feelings color a scene.
- Describe the same event from two characters' views.
