What this lesson teaches
Stories are built in pieces — chapters, scenes, or stanzas. Each part does a job and builds on the one before to shape the whole.
Worked example
A chapter that shows a storm brewing sets up the next chapter's shipwreck, which leads to the rescue — each part prepares the next.

- Tell what job a story's first chapter does.
- Explain how one scene sets up the scene after it.
- Describe how a poem's last stanza connects to its first.
