People and Their Environment
Aligned to C3.D2.Geo.2 — C3 Framework for Social Studies State Standards.
What this lesson teaches
People use and change the land around them to meet their needs. They also adapt, which means they change what they do to fit the place where they live.
Worked example
In a cold, snowy place people wear warm coats and build sloped roofs so snow slides off — that is adapting to the environment.
Practice questions
- Name one way people change the land.
- What does it mean to adapt to a place?
- Tell how people might live differently in a hot desert than in a cold mountain town.
