Arrays — Foundations of Multiplication
Aligned to 2.OA.C.4 — Common Core State Standards for Mathematics.
What this lesson teaches
An array arranges objects in equal rows and columns. You can find the total by adding equal groups, which is the start of multiplication.
Worked example
A 3-by-4 array has 3 rows of 4: 4 + 4 + 4 = 12 objects.
Practice questions
- How many in a 2-by-5 array?
- Draw an array for 3 rows of 3.
- Write a repeated-addition sentence for 4 rows of 2.
