What this lesson teaches

We can sort things into groups and count each group. Then we can tell which group has more or fewer.

Example 1

In a bag: 3 red, 5 blue, 2 green blocks. Blue has the most. Blue has 2 more than red because 5 - 3 = 2.

Example 2

Sort your shoes: 4 pairs with laces, 2 without. Laces has 2 more, because 4 − 2 = 2.

Example 3

Count all the blocks in the bag together: 3 + 5 + 2 = 10 blocks in all. The groups add up to the whole.
