What this lesson teaches
Every day, people go to work so that other people can get what they need. Some jobs happen indoors and some outdoors; some use tools and some use words. Noticing the jobs around you is how you start to learn what you might like doing.
Worked examples
Example 1
A plumber comes when a sink leaks, a nurse helps when someone is sick, and a bus driver gets people where they need to go.
Example 2
Some jobs you can see and some you cannot. Someone fixed the traffic light and someone stocked the store shelves before the store opened.
Example 3
People get paid for their work, and they use that money to buy the things their own family needs. Work and money are connected.
Practice questions
- Name three jobs you have seen someone do this week.
- Pick one job and say what tools that person uses.
- Which job would you want to try? Say one reason.
