Habits That Keep You Healthy
Aligned to NHES:1-K — Jump$tart National Standards in K-12 Personal Finance Education & Advance CTE Career Clusters.

What this lesson teaches
A few small habits, done every day, do more for your health than anything you do once. Washing your hands, sleeping enough, moving your body and eating different colors of food are the four that matter most at your age.
Worked examples
Example 1
Washing your hands with soap for as long as it takes to sing the alphabet removes germs that plain water leaves behind.
Example 2
Sleep is when your body grows and your brain stores what you learned. Losing an hour of sleep shows up the next day as a bad mood.
Example 3
A plate with a few different colors on it — orange carrots, green beans, brown bread — usually has what your body needs.
Practice questions
- Name the four habits from this lesson.
- How long should you wash your hands? Try it with a timer.
- Name three colors of food you ate today.
