What this lesson teaches

In a block coding app you snap picture blocks together to tell a character what to do, like move, jump, or make a sound. When you press play, you watch what happens and see if it did what you wanted. If it did not, you can change a block and try again, which is how all coders learn.

Worked example

Pretend each arrow card is a block. You line up: forward, forward, turn, forward. A friend acts as the robot and follows your cards exactly. If they bump the wall, you swap a card and try the path again.

Practice questions

  1. What do you do after you press play and watch your blocks run?
  2. If your character goes the wrong way, what can you change?
  3. Make up three move commands to guide a friend across the room.
