What this lesson teaches
Showing work to an audience is its own art. You curate by selecting which pieces to include and in what order, consider the venue and viewer, and write an artist statement explaining your intent. Being able to present and talk about your work matters for art school, scholarships, and any creative career.
Worked example
An artist statement is a short paragraph naming your theme, your materials, and what you want viewers to take away, so a stranger can understand the thinking behind the work.
Practice questions
- Write a short artist statement for one of your pieces.
- Choose and order five works for a small exhibition.
- Find one local show or online portfolio you could submit to.

Artes Visuales: exposición, curaduría y declaraciones de artista
Mostrar el trabajo a un público es un arte en sí mismo. Haces curaduría al seleccionar qué piezas incluir y en qué orden, consideras el espacio y al espectador, y escribes una declaración de artista que explica tu intención. Saber presentar y hablar de tu trabajo es fundamental para la escuela de arte, las becas y cualquier carrera creativa.
Ejemplo: Una declaración de artista es un párrafo breve donde nombras tu tema, tus materiales y lo que quieres que el espectador se lleve, de modo que alguien que no te conoce pueda entender el pensamiento detrás de la obra.
