What this lesson teaches
At this level artists develop a sustained body of work built around an idea or theme, not just single pieces. You research, experiment, and document your process from first sketch to finished work. This kind of conceptually driven, independent thinking is exactly what AP Art and college portfolios look for.
Worked example
For a portfolio you might explore the theme of memory across eight pieces, trying photography, painting, and collage, and keeping a journal showing how each experiment led to the next.
