Spontaneous Interpersonal Communication
Aligned to ACTFL Interpersonal — ACTFL World-Readiness Standards.
What this lesson teaches
As you grow, you can handle real-life situations in the language, like ordering food, asking for directions, or sharing an opinion. The key skill is keeping the conversation going even when you get stuck. Instead of switching to English, you can ask a question or say it a different way.
Worked example
If you forget the word for 'fork' in Spanish, you might say, 'Como se dice fork?' (How do you say fork?) and keep the conversation moving.
Practice questions
- What can you say when you forget a word, instead of switching to English?
- Role-play ordering a drink in another language.
- Why is recovering from a mistake an important skill?
