Theatre: acting technique & production roles
Aligned to NCAS:Pr — National Core Arts Standards.
What this lesson teaches
Strong acting uses voice, movement, and projection so the back row can hear and believe you. Theatre is also a team effort: lighting, set, costumes, and stage management all shape the show. Learning both onstage and backstage roles makes you a versatile, valuable collaborator.
Worked example
To project, you breathe from your belly and aim your voice at the back wall, not by shouting. Meanwhile a stage manager tracks every cue so scene changes run smoothly.
Practice questions
- Say a line so it could be heard across a large room.
- Name three backstage roles and what each one does.
- Why is theatre called a collaborative art form?
