Dance: technique & performing for others

Aligned to NCAS:Pr — National Core Arts Standards.

What this lesson teaches

Technique is the skill that makes dancing look strong and controlled: good posture, balance, coordination, and staying on the beat. With practice you can learn set dances and perform them with focus and expression. Warming up and stretching first keeps your body safe.

Worked example

Practice balancing on one foot with a tall straight back and arms out. Hold it for five counts. That control is technique you can use in any dance.

Practice questions

  1. Balance on one foot with good posture for five counts.
  2. Why is it important to warm up before dancing?
  3. Perform a short routine with focus and a clear ending.
