What this lesson teaches
In an informational text, back every claim you make with the strongest fact, statistic, or statement the author provides. Separate what the text states directly from what you reasonably infer.
Worked examples
Example 1
An article never says a city is growing fast, but reports its population 'doubled in six years.' That statistic is the strongest evidence for the inference of rapid growth.
Example 2
A report never calls a drug dangerous, but notes the trial 'was halted early' — trials are stopped for a reason.
Example 3
Absence is evidence too. A safety report that never mentions long-term effects has told you something about what was studied.
Practice questions
- Point to the strongest fact that supports the author's main point.
- Name one thing stated directly and one thing you infer.
- Explain why one statistic proves the claim better than another.

Evidencia en la No Ficción
En un texto informativo, respalda cada afirmación con el dato, la estadística o la declaración más sólida que ofrezca el autor. Distingue lo que el texto dice directamente de lo que infieres con razón.
Ejemplo 1: Un artículo nunca dice que una ciudad crece rápido, pero informa que su población 'se duplicó en seis años.' Esa estadística es la evidencia más sólida para inferir un crecimiento acelerado.
Ejemplo 2: Un informe nunca llama peligroso a un medicamento, pero señala que el ensayo 'se detuvo antes de tiempo' — los ensayos se detienen por algo.
Ejemplo 3: La ausencia también es evidencia. Un informe de seguridad que nunca menciona los efectos a largo plazo te dijo algo sobre lo que se estudió.
