Trade and Economic Interdependence

Aligned to C3.D2.Eco — C3 Framework for Social Studies State Standards.

What this lesson teaches

When regions specialize in what they produce best and trade for the rest, both sides gain. This interdependence links distant economies and spreads wealth and risk.

Worked example

A region with gold trades it for grain from a farming region; each gets what it lacks, and both grow wealthier than producing everything alone.

Practice questions

  1. What is specialization, and why is it efficient?
  2. How can trade make two regions better off?
  3. What's one risk of depending on trade?
