What this lesson teaches
Sensory receptors in your eyes, ears, skin, nose, and tongue detect stimuli like light, sound, and pressure. They send electrical messages along nerves to the brain, which processes them to trigger immediate behavior or to store as memory.
Worked example
When a loud noise startles you, receptors in your ears send a signal to your brain, which instantly makes you flinch — and later you may remember the sound, showing the same signal can cause quick action and lasting memory.
Practice questions
- Have someone quietly clap behind you and notice how fast your body reacts before you decide to.
- Make a flow model with arrows: stimulus, receptor, nerve, brain, and response.
- Explain, using the idea of signals, why touching something sharp makes you pull back before you feel the pain.

Sentidos, señales y el cerebro
Los receptores sensoriales de tus ojos, oídos, piel, nariz y lengua detectan estímulos como la luz, el sonido y la presión. Envían mensajes eléctricos por los nervios hasta el cerebro, que los procesa para provocar un comportamiento inmediato o para guardarlos como memoria.
