Long Division with Big Numbers

What this lesson teaches

The standard long-division algorithm breaks a big division into small steps: divide, multiply, subtract, bring down the next digit, and repeat until you run out of digits.

Worked example

6,192 ÷ 24: 24 goes into 61 twice (2×24=48, remainder 13), bring down 9 → 139, 24 goes in 5 times (5×24=120, remainder 19), bring down 2 → 192, 24 goes in 8 times exactly. Answer: 258.
