What this lesson teaches
An economy is how people make, sell, and buy goods and services. Every state has main industries, like farming, mining, factories, or tourism, and it trades what it produces with other states and countries.
Worked example
A state with rich farmland might grow more wheat than its people can eat, so it sells the extra to other states and buys things it does not make, like cars or oranges, in return.
Practice questions
- What is the difference between a good and a service?
- Explain why states trade goods with one another instead of making everything themselves.
- Name one main industry in your state and explain how the land or resources there help it succeed.

Una economía es la manera en que las personas producen, venden y compran bienes y servicios. Cada estado tiene industrias principales, como la agricultura, la minería, las fábricas o el turismo, e intercambia lo que produce con otros estados y países.
Ejemplo: Un estado con tierras fértiles podría cultivar más trigo del que su gente puede comer, así que vende el sobrante a otros estados y, a cambio, compra cosas que no produce, como autos o naranjas.
