Word Problems with Time, Money, and Measures

What this lesson teaches
Real problems can use time, distance, mass, or money. Read carefully to see whether to add, subtract, multiply, or divide. For elapsed time, count forward from the start to the end.
Worked example
A movie starts at 1:15 and ends at 3:05. How long is it? Count from 1:15 to 3:15 is 2 hours. But the end is 3:05, which is 10 minutes before 3:15, so subtract 10 minutes: 2 hours minus 10 minutes = 1 hour 50 minutes.

- A bus ride starts at 9:20 and ends at 10:05. How long is the ride?
- You have $10.00 and spend $3.75. How much money is left?
- A bottle holds 2 liters. You pour out 750 milliliters. How many milliliters are left?
