Division with Remainders
Aligned to 4.NBT.B.6 — Common Core State Standards for Mathematics.
What this lesson teaches
Divide by breaking the big number apart by place value. Share out the hundreds, then tens, then ones. Whatever is left over that cannot be shared evenly is the remainder.
Worked example
947 / 4. Think 900 = 200 fours (800) with 100 left. Bring it together: 4 x 200 = 800, leaving 147. 4 x 30 = 120, leaving 27. 4 x 6 = 24, leaving 3. Add the parts: 200 + 30 + 6 = 236, remainder 3. Check: 236 x 4 = 944, plus 3 = 947.

- 84 apples are packed 9 to a box. How many full boxes, and how many apples are left over?

Divide separando el numero grande por valor posicional. Reparte las centenas, luego las decenas y luego las unidades. Lo que sobra y no se puede repartir en partes iguales es el residuo.
