What this lesson teaches
A narrative is a story you write, real or imagined. Good ones have events in a clear order — a beginning, middle, and end — and use descriptive details, dialogue, and feelings to bring the moment to life for your reader.
Worked example
Instead of 'I was scared in the dark,' a strong writer shows it: 'My heart thumped as I reached for the light switch, and every creak of the floor made me freeze.'
Practice questions
- Write the first three sentences of a story that puts a reader right into the action.
- Take a plain sentence like 'The dog ran' and add descriptive details to it.
- Plan a short story by listing its beginning, middle, and end.
