What this lesson teaches
Good writing is clear and organized so a reader can follow it easily. Match your writing to your task and your audience: a note to a friend sounds different from a report for class. Keep ideas grouped and in a sensible order.
Worked examples
Example 1
A how-to on making a sandwich is clear when it lists the steps in order — get bread, add filling, close it, cut it — instead of jumping around, so the reader never gets lost.
Example 2
A compare-and-contrast essay is clear when it handles one point at a time for both subjects, instead of everything about one then everything about the other.
Example 3
Write the ending before you polish the middle. A piece with a strong close forgives a lot; one that trails off does not.
Practice questions
- Explain how writing to a teacher might differ from writing to a friend.
- Put these steps in a sensible order: eat it, choose a snack, wash your hands.
- Write one clear opening sentence that tells a reader what your writing will be about.

Escritura Clara y Ordenada
La buena escritura es clara y ordenada para que un lector la siga fácilmente. Ajusta tu escritura a tu tarea y a tu público: una nota para un amigo suena distinta a un reporte para la clase. Mantén las ideas agrupadas y en un orden lógico.
Ejemplo 1: Un instructivo para hacer un sándwich es claro cuando enlista los pasos en orden — saca el pan, agrega el relleno, ciérralo, córtalo — en lugar de saltar de un lado a otro, para que el lector nunca se pierda.
Ejemplo 2: Un ensayo de comparación es claro cuando trata un punto a la vez para los dos temas, en vez de todo sobre uno y luego todo sobre el otro.
Ejemplo 3: Escribe el final antes de pulir el medio. Un texto con un buen cierre perdona mucho; uno que se apaga no.
