Understanding Fractions

What this lesson teaches
A fraction names equal parts of a whole. The bottom number (denominator) tells how many equal parts; the top (numerator) tells how many we have.
Worked example
A pizza cut into 4 equal slices: 1 slice is 1/4, and 3 slices is 3/4 of the pizza.
Practice questions
- What fraction is shaded if 2 of 6 equal parts are colored?
- Draw a shape showing 3/4.
- Which is more: 1/2 or 1/4 of the same pizza?
