Fractions on a Number Line

What this lesson teaches

A fraction is a number that lives on the number line. Split the space from 0 to 1 into equal parts, then count the parts to reach your fraction.

Worked example

To place 3/4, split 0 to 1 into 4 equal parts. Each part is 1/4. Start at 0 and hop 3 parts. You land on 3/4.

Practice questions

  1. Split 0 to 1 into 2 equal parts and mark 1/2.
  2. On a line split into 4 parts, where is 2/4?
  3. Which is farther from 0: 1/3 or 2/3?
