What this lesson teaches

Shapes can be sorted into groups by what they share. For example, squares, rectangles, and rhombuses are all quadrilaterals because they each have 4 sides. You can also split a shape into equal parts and name each part as a unit fraction of the whole.

Worked example

A square has 4 sides, so it belongs to the quadrilateral group. Split that square into 4 equal parts and each part is 1/4 of the area.
