What this lesson teaches
Big words become easy when you split them into syllables and notice common endings like '-tion' or '-able.' Reading at a steady pace with expression helps you understand what you read.
Worked examples
Example 1
The word 'remarkable' splits into 're-mark-able.' Read it chunk by chunk, then say it smoothly. Reading with expression means your voice matches the meaning.
Example 2
'Independence' splits into 'in-de-pen-dence.' Four chunks you can read, instead of one word you cannot.
Example 3
Long words are often short words with pieces added. 'Unbelievable' is 'un' + 'believe' + 'able' — you already knew the middle.
