What this lesson teaches
Good speakers and writers pick words that fit who they are talking to. You can say the same idea in a fun way or a formal way.
Worked example
To a friend you might say, 'That's cool!' but in a report you would write, 'That is very interesting,' to fit the serious tone.
Practice questions
- Say a friendly sentence and a more formal one with the same idea.
- Pick a word that fits a report better than a slang word.
- Explain why word choice changes for different listeners.
