Map Skills, Globes, and Continents

What this lesson teaches
A globe is a model of the whole Earth; a map is a flat drawing of a place. Maps and globes show the seven continents and the oceans between them. A compass rose shows the cardinal directions: north, south, east, and west.
Worked example
On a globe, the big blue areas are oceans. Find North America, where the United States is. To travel toward the North Pole, you go north — usually 'up' on a map.
Practice questions
- Name the four cardinal directions.
- How many continents are there? Name two.
- On most maps, which direction is at the top?
