What this lesson teaches
You can name shapes by counting their sides and corners, like a pentagon has 5 sides. You can also split rectangles and circles into halves, thirds, or fourths, where every part is the same size. Three thirds put back together make one whole.
Worked example
Fold a strip of paper into 3 equal parts. Each part is one third. All three thirds together make the whole strip again.

- How many sides does a hexagon have?
- Split a circle into 3 equal thirds.
- If a pizza is cut into fourths, how many fourths make the whole pizza?

Puedes identificar figuras contando sus lados y esquinas; por ejemplo, un pentágono tiene 5 lados. También puedes dividir rectángulos y círculos en mitades, tercios o cuartos, donde cada parte tiene el mismo tamaño. Tres tercios juntos forman un entero.
Ejemplo: Dobla una tira de papel en 3 partes iguales. Cada parte es un tercio. Los tres tercios juntos vuelven a formar la tira completa.
