Shapes and Partitioning into Halves and Fourths

What this lesson teaches
A shape is named by what it always has, like a triangle always has 3 sides, not by its color or size. You can also split a circle or rectangle into 2 equal parts called halves, or 4 equal parts called fourths. Each part must be the same size.
Worked example
Cut a square into 2 equal pieces and you have halves. Cut it into 4 equal pieces and you have fourths. Each fourth is smaller than each half.

Figuras geométricas y división en mitades y cuartos
Una figura se nombra por sus características permanentes; por ejemplo, un triángulo siempre tiene 3 lados, sin importar su color o tamaño. También puedes dividir un círculo o un rectángulo en 2 partes iguales llamadas mitades, o en 4 partes iguales llamadas cuartos. Cada parte debe ser del mismo tamaño.
Ejemplo: Corta un cuadrado en 2 piezas iguales y obtienes mitades. Córtalo en 4 piezas iguales y obtienes cuartos. Cada cuarto es más pequeño que cada mitad.
