What this lesson teaches
We can put shapes together to make a new, bigger shape.
Worked examples
Example 1
Two triangles can be pushed together to make a square. The two small shapes become one new shape.
Example 2
Put a square and a triangle together, roof on top, and you have drawn a house — one new shape from two.
Example 3
Six triangles fitted around a point make a hexagon. The pieces are still triangles; together they are something new.
Practice questions
- What shape can you make from 2 squares side by side?

- Can you build a bigger triangle from smaller triangles?

Construir figuras nuevas
Podemos juntar figuras para hacer una figura nueva más grande.
Ejemplo 1: Dos triángulos se pueden juntar para hacer un cuadrado. Las dos figuras pequeñas se vuelven una figura nueva.
Ejemplo 2: Pon un cuadrado y un triángulo juntos, el techo arriba, y dibujaste una casa — una figura nueva hecha de dos.
Ejemplo 3: Seis triángulos acomodados alrededor de un punto forman un hexágono. Las piezas siguen siendo triángulos; juntas son algo nuevo.
