What this lesson teaches

A true second-language user uses the language as a research and learning tool, reaching information and viewpoints available only in that language. You can deepen your knowledge in history, science, art, or current affairs and gain perspectives your monolingual peers cannot access.

Worked example

Researching a history project, you could read primary sources and scholarship in Spanish about Latin American independence that have never been translated into English.

Practice questions

  1. How can the language give you access others do not have?
  2. Name a school subject you could research using the language.
  3. Why is using the language as a tool a sign of real fluency?

Every lesson comes with a video taught in English and Spanish — the same video the QR code in the printed workbook opens.
