What this lesson teaches
Your digital identity is the picture of you that exists online, and colleges and employers really do look at it. Information literacy means critically evaluating what you read, recognizing misinformation and deepfakes, and understanding how your personal data is collected and used, often as the price of free apps. Managing your reputation and thinking for yourself in a manipulative information landscape protects your opportunities and your mind.
Worked example
A video shows a politician saying something outrageous, but it is a deepfake. Before sharing, you check trusted news sources, notice no one credible reported it, and look for signs of editing. You also adjust your own privacy settings so future employers see the version of you that you choose to show.
