What this lesson teaches
Data is information we collect, like answers to a survey or measurements over time. By itself a pile of numbers is hard to understand, so we organize it in a table and then turn it into a chart or graph. A good picture of the data helps us spot patterns we would have missed just staring at the numbers.
Worked example
You ask 20 classmates their favorite fruit and make a tally. Then you draw a bar chart. Suddenly it is easy to see that apples got the tallest bar, so apples are the most popular, just by looking at the picture.

Recopilar, organizar y visualizar datos
Los datos son información que recopilamos, como las respuestas a una encuesta o mediciones a lo largo del tiempo. Por sí solo, un montón de números es difícil de entender, por eso los organizamos en una tabla y luego los convertimos en una gráfica o diagrama. Una buena imagen de los datos nos ayuda a identificar patrones que no habríamos notado solo mirando los números.
Ejemplo: Le preguntas a 20 compañeros cuál es su fruta favorita y haces una tabla de conteo. Luego dibujas una gráfica de barras. De repente es fácil ver que las manzanas tienen la barra más alta, lo que significa que son las más populares, solo con mirar la imagen.
