Medieval & Early Modern Civilizations

Aligned to C3.D2.His — C3 Framework for Social Studies State Standards.

What this lesson teaches

After ancient empires, societies across the world developed — feudal Europe, Islamic empires, African kingdoms, and Asian dynasties — connected increasingly by trade and the exchange of ideas.

Worked example

The Silk Road linked China to the Mediterranean, carrying silk, spices, and ideas (like papermaking) across continents and spreading innovation.

Practice questions

  1. Name a trade route and two things exchanged on it.
  2. How did trade spread ideas, not just goods?
  3. Compare one feature of two medieval societies.
